Lessons on Road Travelling with Babies and Toddlers

What can I say, road trips are excruciatingly boring for little ones. We go on road trips on a regular basis. One time, we also made the mistake of travelling in the evening while en route to the family resort. We thought that it would be better for Kara because the trip will be shorter (instead of 12 hours, the trip only took 8 hours).

It wasn't.

She usually sleeps through the night (from 11pm to 9am) but this time, she woke up in the middle of her sleep and probably forgot that she was sleeping in her car seat and got so annoyed. She cried for 30 minutes straight. It was the first time in my life that she cried that long. I couldn't get her out of the car seat since we were on a highway and nowhere near any rest stops. Once we were able to pullover, I got her out and she didn't want to go back to sleep anymore. Imagine my dilemma - how do I keep her occupied while it's dark?

LESSON 1: TRAVEL DURING THE DAY AND PLAN FOR STOP OVERS.

Going back to Manila, we traveled in the morning and had stopovers every 2 or 3 hours. The total duration of the trip was longer but it was okay because everyone in the car was happy, especially the baby. There were no more tears!
