This list is from the American Montessori Society. The intent of this checklist is to provide Montessori families with a list of developmentally-appropriate materials and activities that very young children ages birth to 3 years are generally expected to have available in their classrooms. This list is comprehensive but not exclusive or prescriptive and you may also present other activities.
HOW TO USE THIS LIST: In Montessori, technically children aren’t graded – it’s either you have mastered a skill, or you are still learning. You can mark the column to the left as such:
P – Presented the Activity (i.e. you’ve modelled it… and not just once!)
A – Child can do the activity with ASSISTANCE
M – Child has mastered the activity (i.e. can work independently)
There are also activities here that need to be done in sequence (from simple to complex). Again, read the suggested books so you have a better of understanding on why these are activities are important and how they should be done by the child.
